This weekend was really jam-packed as we were trying to squeeze out the last of the summer this Labour Day long weekend. It felt like I was a tourist in a way because we were always on the go. We all took a lot of photos and I think that this made me think of myself like a visitor in my own home town. I was taking all kinds of interesting photos looking for new things in old reveals and was discovering through photography new places I haven’t been before. Sometimes the photo images presented themselves in ways that I didn’t expect as I framed the shot at the time.
The weekend started on Saturday with the family at the Forks. It was a warm day and warm throughout the weekend in fact. We wandered throughout the Forks chatting and taking pictures while the kids ran around. Model trains were in the main terminal, the Dragon Boat races had a presence getting ready and a small dog performance was going on. We walked through the bowl and over the old bridge of the fork of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers before finally grabbing some ice cream later.
On Sunday, the three of us went to the Winnipeg Art Gallery to view the 100 Masters hoping that Rea might absorb all the culture but of course she had a good time just being a one year old. After the WAG we wandered into a Sikh gathering at Memorial Park where they were also providing hospitality and food for the public. We drove home afterwards and parked in front of the house. We immediately decided to grab some more outdoor time and proceeded to put the car into drive and headed to King’s Park – a favourite of ours.
Labour Day Monday was spent at Lockport with friends who were celebrating their son’s 8th birthday. We watched the port transport a vessel and then grabbed some Skinner’s world famous hot dogs. St. Andrew’s church and rectory were our next destinations before we headed back to Winnipeg to grab some birthday cake.
