We have a small yard but we’ve landscaped it so we have two nice gardens in the southeast facing front yard. There’s a small bird feeder hanging from the corner of our house in front of our south facing window. We can see our flower garden from our south facing window. Our tomatoes are growing exceptionally well this year, and our flower garden is doing very well, too.
In our flower garden, wild things grow. The birds are messy feeders and they spill the seeds around. In the spring when new growth begins, I let things grow to see what they are. This year, we had small groups of wheat grow which I harvested two weeks ago. We had a nice bundle of wheat that we tied together and let dry.
Last week I decided to separate the wheat from the chaff. As I sat in the backyard contemplating life while separating the wheat, I thought of this saying and got to know more about was meant, at least in the context of our lives. It was a sunny, warm and breezy day and I was making hay.
I appreciated the depth and vastness of life. Rea’s first birthday was approaching in a matter of a couple of days and I thought of the richness that life can bring forth. Friends were over to celebrate Rea’s birthday and to cut her first clip of hair. The setting was sublime.
